Rita Kathryn Wiener

d. November 2, 2023

Rita Kathryn Wiener (nee Posen) was born on April 21, 1937 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Theodora and Hieronium Posen.  She lived with her brother, Harry, her mother, Theo and her Aunt Henrietta (Hattie). Growing up in a small town, she enjoyed

regular trips with her mother to the butcher, the baker, and the corner store. In high school, she frequented many football and basketball games as well as dances and prom, even earning the title Prom Queen.

In the mid-1950s, Rita left Manitowoc to attend the Michael Reese Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago. While in Chicago, she met and married the love of her life, Leslie Wiener. At the time of their marriage in 1957,

Rita was working for a plastic surgeon

and Les was still attending Chicago Medical School. Following medical school, they moved to Washington, DC and then to South Philadelphia. In 1968, Rita and Les decided to settle in South Jersey (Cherry Hill) to raise their family followed by a move to Haddonfield in 1986. Rita and Les then moved to Brandywine Living in Voorhees in 2021.

Rita enjoyed painting, jigsaw puzzles, reading, poetry by Emily Dickinson and spending time with her grandchildren.

Rita had many interests that she shared with Les. They loved walking into downtown Haddonfield to the Haddonfield Library, solving the NY Times crossword puzzles, playing tennis, traveling the world and spending time in Harvey Cedars on Long Beach Island.

Rita passed away peacefully on November 2, 2023.

Rita was preceded in departure by her husband, Leslie, of 65 years.  She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Landrum and Carolyn Manchel, and son John Wiener (Marybeth), as well as six grandchildren, Emily Landrum and Paige Straub (Andrew), Alexandra and Leah Manchel, and Ryan and Jack Wiener.
